I ate here for the 1st ever and when I say Mrs. Penny made my experience wonderful she was kind and courteous and explained every menu item with details. The food was good and the portions are huge. She also went out of her way to express birthday wishes to me as well. This place is a gem I highly recommend.
The service by Shy was exceptional. She was nice enough to let us taste test the specials she recommended. I am worldwide food critic/ taste tester. With that being said the gumbo had phenomenal flavor, and the hot buffalo chicken combo was outstanding. I had to make another order of the garlic toast to enjoy this outstanding meal.
Loved the jambalaya! Ordered the gumbo to go and had it later for dinner. Both were delicious I highly recommend them. The service was great and friendly. Jessica was so kind and courteous and very welcoming to veterans. I was very impressed and was glad I stopped in. More food than I could eat and a great price too. I'm from out of town and this was a real gem to find!!!
My friends and I were visiting from Northeast Ohio and stumbled into J. Gumbo’s Highlands for the first time- and we’re so glad we did! Mrs. Penny, was incredibly kind and welcoming. She took the time to help us figure out what to order and made us feel right at home. We ended up trying the Voodoo Chicken and the Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Gumbo, and both were absolutely outstanding. The flavors were rich, bold, and full of depth- everything tasted incredibly fresh and authentic. You could tell real care went into making the food. If you’re looking for something that packs heat and flavor without sacrificing quality, this is the spot. Can’t recommend it enough. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Louisville.
I’ve been here a couple times now and I leave feeling SO happy and satisfied. The honey siracha chicken bowl is the best comfort food I’ve had in a very long time! Don’t let the appearance fool you! It may be a small place, but it is so homey and welcoming, and the service is absolutely wonderful. You’ll feel like you’re visiting mom’s house for the best home cook meal!
